What is the Legacy Fund?
Established in 1998, The Legacy Fund offers financial assistance to legally blind Connecticut residents for projects that increase their options for independence.
The Legacy Fund is available thanks to the hundreds of people who bequests to Oak Hill since 1893 enables us to meet the residential, vocational and educational needs of children and adults with visual impairments and multiple disabilities.
Who is eligible?
Grants are awarded quarterly on a competitive basis to individuals who are residents of Connecticut and whose vision is no more than 20/200 after correction. Priority is given to Oak Hill School graduates and former students and to others who demonstrate financial need.
What can be funded?
Grants are available for activities or equipment which will increase employment opportunities, enhance work productivity or assist an individual in becoming more independent and for which other funding is not available.
How much can I request?
Grants range from $50 to $2,500. Awards greater than $2,500 will be considered in unusual circumstances. Because funds available are limited, it may not be possible to fund all requests every year.
When can I submit my request?
You can submit an application anytime. However, applications will be reviewed quarterly. Deadlines are the 15th of January, April, July and October. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications well before the 15th in case additional information is required. Applications completed and received after the quarterly deadline dates will be considered in the following quarter.
How often are grants awarded?
Grants are one-time awards, with possible renewal subject to reapplication. An applicant cannot be considered more than once in any twelve-month period. Grants are not intended to provide on-going support.
In what format can I submit the information?
Applications may be submitted in handwritten or typewritten form, in Braille or on a cassette or on our website via our on-line form.. If you choose to email your application, please remember that all additional required documentation must be mailed. In your proposal, please state the question that is in the Legacy Fund Grant Application, followed by your response. All questions must be answered completely and all documentation must be received before your application can be considered by the committee.
What if I have a question or need the application in another format?
