Breast Health For Women with Intellectual Disabilities Teaching Manual

Kim, Suzanne and Marta

This curriculum is designed to increase the comfort, awareness, and skill of women with intellectual disabilities in relation to their own breast health.  In the accompanying PowerPoint presentation on CD-ROM, 3 women with disabilities act as role models to empower others to perform breast self-examinations, and to tolerate clinical breast exams and mammograms.

Care providers will find this curriculum essential to their commitment to best practice and quality improvement.  It includes valuable teaching strategies and laminated illustrations to augment learning.

"Reaching women with intellectual disabilities about breast health is essential yet often overlooked.  This teaching guide fills that gap in service and should be disseminated to all who work with this special population."  - Pauline Kezer, President, Connecticut Affiliate, Susan G. Komen for the Cure
