Eleanor A. Brooks Blindness Related Supports Center at Oak Hill

With guidance, people with disabilities can live independent and fulfilling lives.


Denise singing Oak Hill program participants are empowered to achieve self-sufficiency. It continues its commitment to people whose primary disability is blindness through the development of independent housing opportunities; community supports; and the vocational center.
 

Blindness Related Programs

Computer classes for blind vocational program
  1. Independent housing: Oak Hill has 10 apartments (located in Hartford County) in the community serving adults who are visually impaired and blind (link to site map). Funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has enabled Oak Hill to develop independent living that has removed the worry of nursing home placement for families.
  2. Community supports: Oak Hill provides training and supports to enhance daily living skills, personal management, employment, social and leisure activities in the community.
  3. *Vocational Center for people who are blind and visually impaired is designed to assist in achieving meaningful employment;

Program features:

  • provides computer training;
  • enhancement of interview skills;
  • find job opportunities;
  • identifying transportation options
