Ways to Give

The annual and planned gifts we receive from individuals, foundation, civic organizations and businesses, combined with the time and telents donated by our many volunteers, enable us to meet the diverse, on-going and unique needs of the people with disabilities we serve.

Direct Program Support

Your gift to Oak Hill touches the lives of children and adults with disabilities by helping them to live as independently as possible and to experience all that life has to offer. Annual gifts support the day-to-day operations of Oak Hill and planned gifts secure the long-term future of Oak Hill.

When you make a donation to Oak Hill, you can feel confident in your your investment -- 90% of your gift directly supports our programs and the people they serve.

Types of Gifts

There are many types of gifts that donors find convenient:

Gifts of Cash

Most gifts to Oak Hill are made by check. If you itemize, these outright cash gifts are generally deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income.

Gifts of Stock

A gift of stock that you have owned for many years can be particularly tax-wise. Stock which has been held over one year and that increases in value is subject to capital gains tax when sold. By making a gift to Oak Hill, you avoid tax on the gain. Also, your contribution deduction is equal to the stock's full fair market value. Generally, the amount is deductible up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. Please click here for more information on making a gift of stock.

Gifts of Real Estate

A home, farm or land may have so appreciated in value through the years that its sale would mean a sizeable capital gains tax. By donating this property to Oak Hill, you avoid the tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property.

Tangible Personal Property (Gifts in Kind)

Gifts of noncash assets, such as art objects, equipment, furniture, etc. may be donated to Oak Hill. The responsibility for appraisal of donated property rests with the donor.

Life Insurance Policies

A gift of a policy that is no longer needed for your family’s security would tnetitle you to an income tax deduction equal to the policy’s replacement cost at the date of the gift. Your subsequent tax deductible gifts to Oak Hill can be used to pay ongoing premiums.

Retirement or Pension Plans

Retirement benefits paid after your death to a tax-exempt charity are not subject to most taxes, while payments to individuals from these funds bear large tax burdens. Therefore, other beneficiaries of your estate will receive larger benefits from other assets, and Oak Hill will benefit more from retirement assets than individuals could.
